Passengers enjoy watching the day-to-day activities, from maneuvering the vessel to remote docks and offloading freight from the cargo hold to watching intrepid kayakers paddle off after wet launching. For this reason, Nootka sound is a destination for experienced expedition-oriented sea kayakers - or for adventurous kayakers who venture out with an experienced kayaking guide. Stops are also made at remote destinations to offload intrepid kayakers. This is a popular campsite during the Steelhead fishing season (Dec-Mar) on the Gold River. There are 20 campsites with pit toilets, picnic tables and fire pits. Many of these remote destinations have no road access. Close by the village of Gold River is the local campground on the river itself which is only a 5 km west of the town.
